Safety professionals play an important role in the coordination of safety activities and advising line management. This 2-day course provides an overview of the most important technical and communication skills safety professionals need to be effective in the successful implementation of a safety management system.

The course focuses on 4 key components:
  • Defining the Role to set parameters of responsibility between line management and the safety staff.
  • Safety Auditing to monitor audit information and create procedures to improve safety performance.
  • Incident Investigation to ensure that all contributing factors and effective preventive/corrective actions are identified.
  • Influencing and Negotiating Skills to help safety professionals get agreement on important safety issues.

  • Identifying the nature and extent of the safety professional's job by examining line management and safety staff responsibilities

2. Safety Auditing

  • Determining procedures for the safety office and top management audits in terms of their efficiency and educational impact on the work force

3. Incident Investigation

  • Thinking systematically through key aspects of any incident to determine all contributing factors
  • Applying criteria for selecting preventive actions

4. Influencing and Negotiating Skills

  • Based on the DuPont SHE Professional Competency training series
  • Improving core competencies of influencing and negotiation, critical skills for today’s safety professional
